Hebrew original c. 180-175 BCE by Jesus ben Sira of Jerusalem, translated into Greek by his grandson, who explains the circumstances in a prologue. Practical wisdom on speech, money, friendship, family, and the fear of the Lord, closing with the Praise of the Ancestors in chapters 44-50. Substantial portions of the lost Hebrew original were recovered from the Cairo Genizah and at Masada. In Catholic and Orthodox canons; not in Jewish or Protestant canons.
