First century CE. A philosophical treatise arguing that devout reason masters the passions, proved from the martyrdoms of Eleazar and the mother with seven sons taken from 2 Maccabees. Stoic in vocabulary, Jewish in commitment. In an appendix to the Greek Bible; not canonical in the Western churches.
