Ketef Hinnom Silver Scrolls (Found 1979)

Two rolled silver amulets, the larger about the size of a thumb, excavated from a burial chamber on the shoulder of the Hinnom Valley in Jerusalem and dated to roughly 600 BCE, before the exile. Unrolling them took three years. They carry a version of the priestly blessing of Numbers 6:24-26. They are the oldest physical fragments of any biblical text yet found, older than the Dead Sea Scrolls by about four centuries, and they establish that at least this formula was in circulation in written form in the First Temple period.
