The Fragments of Papias

Papias, bishop of Hierapolis, wrote five books around 110-140 CE. They are lost; what survives is quotations in later writers, chiefly Eusebius and Irenaeus. He is the earliest witness to who wrote Mark and Matthew, which makes these few paragraphs disproportionately important to how the gospels are dated and attributed.
